Do you know what pH is? pH is a special measure of whether something is acidic or basic. This matters, because it has an impact on much surrounding us. Glass is made from a material known as silica — a merger of silicon and oxygen. This means that a special sodium ion-containing layer on the surface of the electrode's glass has already been used up. This layer draws hydrogen ions in and lets them through the glass but keeps other ions out.” These properties of the glass are what make the glass electrode so reliable for determining pH.
The glass electrode represents one of the most reliable instrument for the used of pH measurement in various applications. It is widely used in laboratories for its application, for example, during science experimentations, for determining the acidity or basicity of any certain solutions or determining the quality of many products.
