Many people love to garden, it is a fun hobby. It connects you with nature and enables you to observe the different plants as they grow. But, at times it can be difficult to make sure your plants grow robust and healthy. This is where pH and EC meters come in to ensure that all your plants have the proper ingredient to reach their best health. But what are these pH and EC meters, and how are they beneficial?
Once you have set up the meter, you must test the liquid you are looking to check. All you do is stick the end of the meter into the liquid. Then the number will appear on the screen of the pH meter. That number tells you whether the liquid is acidic or alkaline. Most plants like a pH level of 6.0 or 7.5. This is a perfect range in which they can absorb all the vitamins that need in order to develop.
Next up are EC meters. EC is short for electrical conductivity. These wireless, portable meters measure the relative conductivity of electric current through the water, giving you an indication of how much nutritional content is there. It involves immersing the end of the meter into the water and turning it on. The meter will then give a number of the EC level of the water on display. Hydroponic gardening (cultivating plants using aquatic solution) perfect EC level is between 1.2 and 1.8. This level is important for the plants to have enough nutrients to prosper.
Soil is not needed for hydroponic gardening. Plants grow in water, rather than soil, enriched with nutrients. It is crucial for you to check the pH & EC levels of the water with a tds meter for the healthy growth of your plants. When the pH level is high or low, it makes it difficult for plants to intake nutrients. A too high EC level can hurt the roots of the plants, while a too low level can make the plant to grow slowly or not at all.
Therefore with this in mind, regular testing of your water is suggested to help maintain the pH and EC levels - Use pH adjustment products and EC meters as needed. That means checking it frequently to make sure all is on the proper level. If the pH level is off, you can add specific types of solutions that can increase or decrease the pH level. So if the pH measurement is too high, you'd add a solution that helps bring it back down. To raise the EC level, you would add more nutrients to the water, while if the meter shows the EC is too high, you would take some out.
It is worth noting that pH and EC levels should not only be checked while hydroponic gardening. It is also extremely relevant to normal soil gardening. This means that plants in soil gardening may be in trouble, since soil that is too high in pH will lead to plants missing nutrients. That means the plants do not receive the nutrients necessary for their well being. In contrast, the low pH level of the soil can cause an excess of some nutrients, which could be hazardous to the plants.
For every grower striving for their plants to thrive, Labtech pH and EC meters are fantastic maintenance tools. These meters are user-friendly, so you don’t need advanced knowledge to use them. And each time you use them, they deliver accurate readings. If you are testing the pH and EC levels in your soil and water regularly, you can adjust the nutrients accordingly, providing a stable environment for plants to thrive.
